This extremely virtuoso string quartet setting uses its three main sections to describe a way from the imaginative search of melodies and sounds via rhythmic ecstasy to an initially third-heavy epilogue whose supposed calm quickly turns out to be deceptive. The work was first recorded on the CD of the same name by the renowned label ECM.
